Matt 7: 15-27

There are prophets of consumerism who would turn our heads with catchy phrases and have us believe that it is better to buy than to care, better to pile up flashy gizmos than to offer our time, our authentic selves, and our treasure for the healing of the world. But Jesus cautions that how we live our lives matters. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus calls us to be true to God’s holy purpose for our lives so that we might draw nearer to the kingdom. Our words and actions matter, radically matter, Jesus says.

God, help us to build our house of life on a strong foundation of honesty, compassion, and generosity, so that, when we encounter heartbreaking and difficult things in life, love will hold us up.
