Matt 6: 25-34

In some of the most beautiful, compelling prose in the New Testament, Jesus exhorts the disciples to trust in the God’s provenance by letting go of all worry about daily living. Just as the birds of the air and the lilies of the field are clothed and fed, so too God provides to each one of us protection and sustenance. God’s knowledge of your needs is perfect, Jesus tells them; only open and trust and you will be filled and supported. Jesus invites the disciples to strive to know God and to let God work through them. What more important teaching could any one of us embrace than to open our minds and hearts to God’s grace?

God it is not always easy to let go of our worries about tomorrow and to trust, instead, in the bountiful goodness of your creation. Please help us to trust that in the love and care we share with each other and all God’s creatures, there we will find you…the true source of our sustenance.
